The first videogame ever I remember playing,
OutRun is an arcade racer released 30 years ago, in 1986.
For its time it was an innovative game both techwise and gameplaywise.
The goal of the game is driving a Ferrari Testarossa through various scenarios before time runs out,
meanwhile paying attention to not crash into turns or other cars.
The player could control the car with a 3rd person view.
Even without polygons, OutRun offered a sense of speed and draw distance amazing for its time.
It was easy to find OutRun cabinets with wheel, pedals and seat in arcades.
Every driving stage ends with its road splitting, leading to other 2 stages, with usually the left fork being easier.
This also means the game has actually 15 stages, and a player must finish it at least 5 times to see every stage.
The game also has 3 differents songs to choice right before starting driving, and they all got pretty famous.
OutRun was a big hit at its time, thanks to its technological feats and a somewhat glamourous and easygoing atmosphere, typically from the '80.
It was converted for almost every game system, but unfortunately no one was arcade perfect (some were outright terrible), with Genesis version being the closest.
Players will have to wait for the Saturn to play an arcade perfect port.
OutRun also spawned dozens of clones, mostly inferior to the original one, some even released from sega itself, like Outrunners, not so bad itself but with an absolutely terrible genesis conversion.
In this video I will just drive through the easiest stages.
Even if the game is now dated, it's still very enjoyable.

Il primo videogioco per cui ricordo di aver mai affrontato una spesa,
Out Run è un arcade, un titolo da sala giochi rilasciato oramai trenta anni fa, nel 1986. Fu un titolo per il tempo tecnicamente innovativo e con un tipo di gioco non lineare. L'obiettivo era guidare una Ferrari Testarossa attraverso vari scenari entro il tempo limite, facendo attenzione sia alla strada e le sue curve ed ostacoli naturali che al traffico.
La visuale era posta alle spalle della vettura, in terza persona, al contrario della maggiorparte dei videogiochi di guida che a quel tempo adottavano una visuale dall'alto.
Pur non adottando grafica poligonale, Out Run riusciva a creare sensazioni di velocità e profondità sconosciute ai più all'epoca, adottando una tecnica per far scalare gli sprite mano mano che si avvicinano alla vettura. Era facile inoltre incontrare ai tempi i cabinati del gioco nelle varie sale con annessi sedile, pedali e volante, per un maggiore coinvolgimento.
Ogni ambientazione da percorrere al suo termine pone un bivio per 2 locazioni successive e differenti, con solitamente il percorso a sinistra più facile e quello a destra più difficile, per un totale di 15 livelli da visitare tutti in almeno 5 partite, con 3 diverse musiche da scegliere all'inizio di una partita, che divennero tutte abbastanza popolari.
Out Run ebbe un considerevole successo per l'epoca, grazie alla sua tecnologia ed uno stile di gioco spensierato e con un certo fascino tipicamente anni '80. Oltre ad essere uno dei pionieri dei racing game in 3d, che sarebbero arrivati verso la metà degli anni '90, venne convertito per una marea di sistemi casalinghi da gioco, oltre che una marea di cloni, alcuni validi e altri meno: per quelli validi ad esempio cito i giochi amiga dedicati alle Lotus e le Jaguar, per quelli da evitare cito OutRunners della stessa Sega per il Megadrive, una conversione vergognosa, ed il bello è che l'originale da sala non era neanche male. L'originale si mantiene comunque superiore, e si dovette aspettare il Saturn per una conversione arcade perfect.
Il video proposto è una semplice corsa per il percorso più facile.
Il gioco mantiene ancora gran parte del suo fascino, ma è sicuramente tecnicamente datato, per quanto avanzato nel 1986.
