In this video, Overlander, released in 1988 for the Atari ST by Elite.
The year is 2025 and the Earth was made an uninhabitable desert by the effects of the ozone hole. While the survivors live in isolated underground cities, the abandoned highways on the surface are infested with pirate vehicles that attack anyone who ventures outside. You control one of the so-called Overlanders, a mercenary who use modified and armed pre-catastrophe era cars to deal with the dangers of the roads, and you carry out missions on behalf of the underground inhabitants, transporting things or people from one city to another in a Mad Max-like scenery.
Graphically Overlander is well done with nice colored although little empty backgrounds. The sensation of speed is great and everything runs smooth. The audio is very good, with a nice main menu tunechip and good sounds fx. The playability is good even if the game's difficulty is much above average.
Here you'll find gameplay of first mission until I reach the boss and...die.
