In this video, Space Harrier, released in 1988 for the Atari ST by Elite.

Take your gun and your jetpack it's time to destroy enemies in a very different way we are used to, in this arcade hit by Sega. Why is it different? Because this time there is no horizontal nor vertical scrolling, but there's a sort of frontal scrolling. Yes like a racing game you see the main sprite from behind and the enemies and various things forming the environment comes towards you. Nothing much else to say, except that you have to kill and defeat everything that comes in your way and avoid be killed.
The game is enjoyable, the programmers have done a very good job in porting it to the ST, the graphics looks almost the same as the arcade, the scrolling is smooth while the sprites are not so smooth but are acceptable, the audio chiptune track is magnificent, the sound fx are good while the "aaargh, get ready" sampled voice is IMHO too loud. The controls are fine, the use of the mouse instead of the joystick is brilliant. As a side note, maybe thanks to a smaller game window, the programmers have managed to put more than the ordinary 16 colours on screen.
Here you'll find gameplay of the first 2 levels and many many many death.

All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P.

Let me know what do you think about the video in the comments below but, most important, Enjoy!!!
