Paladins on Ubuntu Linux | VMware
Lots of folks want to play Paladins on Linux but updates to the game and game launcher tend to break compatibility with Wine. Luckily, we have VMware!
A recent update to the Paladins launcher broke Paladins in Wine 1.9.x due to new anti-cheat/hack changes. This has been a common theme recently with Wine, as PlanetSide 2 has the same issue.
I was running Paladins at roughly 720p at full graphics. Since VMware was not full screened, Compiz (the Window Manager) was compositing the whole desktop which takes a toll on performance.
I'd wager my average fps was roughly 20fps, which isn't acceptable for most gamers. Turning the graphics down would have a measurable effect.
