Guild Wars 2 on Ubuntu Linux With VMware
0Guild Wars 2 is one of the only games I've stumbled upon that runs significantly worse in VMware than in Wine on Linux.
There seems to be a very strange glitch with lighting that causes certain textures to simply disappear, being replaced by a solid shade of magenta. Another issue is with either the CPU or GPU getting hung on, freezing, and then quickly accelerating to catch back up.
My suspicion is that much of the Guild Wars 2 engine is written in such a way that it is single threaded but asynchronous which means that one thread and spawn many subthreads under it. In a virtualized environment, this may have the effect of bogging the virtual CPU down to the point where it has to stop everything to catch back up.
