Passing Through The Floor in Metroid - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
2,416Here's another classic glitch from a classic NES game. This time, I'm showcasing the Door Jump in Metroid.
The Door Jump essentially allows Samus to pass through the top boundary of the screen and wrap around through the bottom, which allows her to access the lower portion of certain areas without the use of bombs or otherwise essential items. One of the most practical uses of the Door Jump is that it allows Samus to collect the Ice Beam before acquiring the bombs.
To perform a Door Jump, open a door and stand in such a position that the door closes on top of Samus. Once you're "stuck" inside the door, tap down to enter Morph Ball form, but immediately cancel it with the A button to jump. Every time you repeat this action correctly, Samus will shimmy up the wall a tiny bit. Now rapidly morph and unmorph in this same fashion until Samus passes through the top of your screen, and warps to the bottom of the area. You might need to jump occasionally to let the screen camera catch up to you.
Note that if you fail in the middle of this trick, you might be stuck for realsies, and you may need to reset your game.
This is one of the first glitches I ever learned about when I got into speedrunning. Not that I am a speedrunner, but I watch them all the time and I have some knowledge on the subject.
Anyway, now you know how to perform a Door Jump in Metroid on the Nintendo Entertainment System. I should also mention that this trick will allow you to explore secret areas of the map that were never intended for use in the game. In some cases you will find a room or an area that cannot otherwise be accessed. Secret rooms!
