PBR Battle 39: Death by Penguins!
2Yes, I got the same guy again. Not only did he not immediately disconnect, this also turned out very different to the first battle. Hence why I uploaded it.
I think Empoleon has become the unexpected star of the team. It's one of the Pokemon I really like, (my second favourite starter, behind Charizard) but have never been able to put on a team. I was really surprised that it became OU, but that gave me even more reason to try it out. (I really like underrated OUs, as you can tell by my use of Electivire and Roserade in other passes) I had my doubts about a Specs Empoleon, due to its low speed, but they all disappeared with this battle. The general idea is to come in on one of its many resistances, and proceed to destroy everything. It has a poor special movepool, but Surf, Ice Beam and Grass Knot are all fantastic moves, and all it really needs.
Which leads me to my next point: you may notice that I have Hydro Cannon in the 4th slot. Now, I normally consider those kinds of moves terrible, but I realised that the move in the 4th slot would rarely ever get used at all. The only options were Flash Cannon, which is only better than the other moves against pure Ice types, which are very few, and rarely a threat to Empoleon, and Signal Beam, which would only be of use against Psychics and Darks. (and even then, it's only slightly more powerful than a STAB Surf)
So I decided to put Hydro Cannon there. The reason: for lols. Yeah, that's basically it. It'll only be used If I want a really overkill method of finishing off the foe's last Pokemon.
Funny that Charizard still ended up being left at the end. This time, I was able to see what the real purpose of its moveset was: Sub Petaya. (Ironically a strategy Empoleon itself is famous for)
Record so far: 2 wins, 0 losses (100%)
OK, I didn't have enough space last time, so I'll explain here: I will start recording the win ratios from this team onwards. All I really care is that they don't go less than 40%, although I'd like to aim for 50% or higher. My rules are these:
1. All battles will be counted, even those I don't record, with the exception of those detailed in the next few rules.
2. Battles in which the opponent uses any Ubers will not count. This means that losses against Uber uses won't count, but neither will wins. Similarly, if an opponent violates Sleep clause or uses OHKO moves, the battle won't count.
3. Battles against obviously in-game or non-ev trained Pokemon won't be counted either, but those against joke/non-serious teams still will.
