PBR Battle 42: A Confusing (Manta)Ray
3A somewhat odd match. Shame Bronzong has never KO'd something with Explosion yet. (I was aiming to blow up Mantine. My judgement was correct on that part, since the rest of their team didn't really pose a threat)
My biggest error here was misjudging Mantine's speed. Aggron has maxed speed, for maximum speed after Rock Polish, but I soon learned it serves another purpose: outrunning other slow Pokemon. (you'll have seen this trick work on Vaporeon in battle 40, which felt confident to stay in on me) I just expected Mantine to fit into that group, it's meant to be bulky. For the record, max speed Adamant Aggron outruns everything up to and including Base 80s with no speed EVs. (if a base 80 has even one EV point in speed, it'll be faster. Thankfully, most bulky base 80s tend to be un-EVd in speed)
Grass Knot sure did a lot to Mantine. I could be pretty sure that it hit at maximum power. The Official Pokemon Handbook: Gold and Silver listed Mantine as the heaviers Johto Pokemon. This is, in fact, wrong, (it's actually Steelix) but Mantine is still pretty damn heavy. As a side note, you can actually tell how much power Grass Knot is hitting at from its animation. (In PBR only, not on DS as far as I know)
Record so far: 3 wins, 2 losses (60%)
Pretty good so far, considering, of those 2 losses, one was really close and the other was a freeze hax.
