PBR Battle 40: So close!
0Probably my closest battle yet. Admittedly, my failure to switch Bronzong in the first turn probably cost me the match. But Aggron and Salamence did a good job of turning things around, even if one of them had to take a Counter-Sash in the process...
In the end, it all came down to whether Gengar's Focus Blast hit or not. (This reminds me, I took part in a Stadium 2 (rental) tournament recently, and the final came down to whether my Sleep Powder hit or not. It missed, of course)
And speaking of Salamence, those of you who follow Smogon will know that it's being suspect-tested at the moment. Unlike Garchomp, the vote looks like it could go either way at the moment. If Salamence is ever banned, I'll replace it with either Dragonite or Kingdra. (who, now that I think about it, probably have more synergy with Bronzong than Sala does, being bulkier)
The story with Salamence is that it was trained up specifically for countering the Battle Tower AI. The idea is to get it behind Dual Screens, set up Sub, DD six times and sweep the opponent's team. The best partner seems to be Uxie, who can use Trick (locking someone into a status, stat-lowering move, or even Double Team, is basically an instant win) and Memento. I basically wanted to see if it could pull off something similar paired with Bronzong.
