PC: Showcase of my Live FreeDOS USB Drive enhanced with scripts to mount it directly inside DOSBox`
This is something I worked on for the fun of it eventually, the live environment of FreeDOS 1.3 installed onto a USB drive with some games and Windows 3.11.
But not just that, also did I made use of LLMs to create a bash script and batch file which do the following...
In case of Linux:
It opens a qt6 based path picker for a directory to choose, which then will get passed through to whichever version of DOSBox is chosen to be executed.
For that, the script checks in both places, Flatpak as well as /usr/bin for potential installations of either DOSBox, DOSBox Stagging or DOSBox-X.
In case of Windows:
A winforms path picker will do what is also the case for Linux.
For the batch file, the script looks up C:\Program Files, as well as Chocolatey's default path for software installations and Widnows Store installed.
Can't guarantee however that all methods work, I am still in the progress of tweaking and fine tuning those scripts.
Also a portable version of DOSBOX-X has been used that's located at .\DOSBOX\WINDOWS\x86_64\dosbox-x.exe
Past that, I made the scripts so I end up with a DOSBox that goes for the performance of a 486DX2 as that's what I had as a kid too.
Sound driver issues are still a thing for both the FreeDOS installation and DOSBox but I'm certain that's relatively easy to fix (or at least as easy as DOS software allows to).
For those interested, here are the scripts to grab:
