Walker Scobell isn’t the only one going through big changes in Season 2 of Percy Jackson & the Olympians. The second season of the Disney+ series based on Rick Riordan’s popular book series is expanding its perspectives for Percy’s quest to save his best friend, and Leah Sava Jeffries’ Annabeth is getting a chance to shine

At Collider’s SDCC studio with her co-stars, Jeffries revealed that Annabeth’s Season 2 journey greatly mirrors her own changes as an actor, coming into the industry with more confidence. In Season 1, Annabeth is skeptical of Percy, having lost her friend Thalia (Tamara Smart) at a young age when she arrived at Camp Half-Blood. Now, however, after having survived a nearly deadly quest to retrieve Zeus’s master bolt, she and Percy are on more equal footing and more open with each other — something Jeffries told Perri Nemiroff she really relates to.
