Phineas Flynn is regarded as one of the most optimistic characters in animation, inspiring numerous generations to make the most out of each day with selfless acts of kindness. But this dude used to be a MENACE! Whenever you revisit the first episode of Phineas and Ferb, Rollercoaster, t’s hard to ignore that Phineas’ characterization is…different from the rest of the series. While the Phineas we know and love tends to be oblivious to things like Isabella’s crush on him or Candace’s burning desire to bust him, it seems Proto-Phineas is more than aware of all of it yet just doesn’t care! While this version of Phineas can come across as cold, after reading up on the pitch bible for the series, I’d argue that he’s actually a little misunderstood. So today I wanna breakdown Phineas’ original personality in the first episode of the series and why he had to change in order for Phineas and Ferb to become the cultural phenomenon that will never stop producing new episodes!
