Starting out as one of Shigeru Miyamoto's pet projects, this game eventually became Nintendo's first new IP on the Gamecube!
You play as Captain Olimar, a deliveryman for Hocotate Freight, on his way to take a much-needed vacation. Unfortunately, that doesnt last long as a meteor hits his ship, the S.S. Dolphin, and he crash lands on the mysterious planet below.
Olimar wakes up to find that his ship is missing 30 parts and his life support system can only keep him alive for 30 days. Olimar soon enlists the help of the Pikmin, named after his favorite brand of carrots back home. Pikmin are ant-like creatures that work together, willing to do whatever Olimar tells them, ranging from breaking down barriers, carrying his lost parts back to his ship, or defeating the enemies in their way.
Pikmin was later re-released on the Wii as part of the New Play Control lineup, a series which took GCN games and remapped the controls to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. This version of the game has a number of QoL improvements over the original, along with the ability to redo any day thats already passed. While the GCN original isnt on a download service quite yet, you can download the Wii version from the Wii U eshop.
