Pixel Descent is a really good (8-Bit) Gauntlet Clone.
For those who don't know the Game, Gauntlet is basically a Roguelike Twin-Stick Shooter, just that the 8-Bit Versions hadn't a second stick, you could only shoot in the direction you looked at. So you steer your chosen character through a medieval fantasy dungeon, shoot monsters that are constantly chasing you if they can, so you have to defeat them and the Nests that constantly spawn in new monsters of the same type.
You also have to get the different type of keys to open doors to rooms.

In Pixel Descent defeating these Monsters give you XP Orbs, where you can get a level up from. If that happens, you can chose one out of three Bonuses that boost your attacks or your general stats.
You also need these level ups, since the monsters get more dangerous in the upper stages.
Aside the XP Orbs there are also plenty treasures to pick up.
These treasures don't just increase your score, but are also a currency for the store.

If you die you take the currency with you and you can either spend this gold to unlock new heroes or to permanently boost some stats.
So your next run is easier with the boosted stats.
