a quick early look at aerial in Platinum Demo (PD for short). Mainly on the manoeuvrability.

As with Episode Duscae, Noctis needs to be in a specific range of a target for his moveset to be "unlocked". Out of that range, he - for example - can't use the directional input for Ravage, and hold to continue attack is disabled, and some other stuff you can check out in my older video.

For aerial in PD, different weapons have different effective range. Cross Shuriken can hold attack for combo from probably infinite range, but its effective range is much shorter, similar to its ground combo. Other weapons out of their effective range cannot continue their combos in midair.

There's "light" weapons (Airstep Sword & Cross Shuriken) and "heavy" weapons (Broadsword & Hero's Shield). Light weapons can perform a string of combo, heavy weapons have only one hit. Noctis can combo from his light weapons to heavy weapons, and probably vice versa as displayed at the end right before Noctis got swung into the stairs.

Cross Shuriken slightly moves Noctis back but it's a projectile, Airstep Sword auto warps Noctis close for 10MP, Hero's shield has a slight forward momentum, Broadsword moves Noctis the shortest but has better reach.

While in light weapons combo, Noctis can do flips by essentially tilting the left stick, similar to Ravage's directional input. Every flip costs 10MP and moves Noctis slightly upwards. The flips may or may not have invincibility frames. Probably just me, input detection feels somewhat dodgy.

Which also means that for Airstep Sword, while having a fairly decent effective range, needs to be in close proximity for combo and hence air flips, since from further away Noctis gets warped in close. Unlike Cross Shuriken which can be done from much further.

I seem to be able to perform multi flips consequtively more consistently by NOT holding the attack button, but by tapping it. There's a timing to it, too quick and Noctis starts the combo. Too slow and he just falls. Holding and Noctis has a tendency to perform an attack between flips... but that's probably a timing issue as well.

Consecutive flips in the SAME direction may not be a thing. Seems that an attack always needs to fit in the middle.

Warping remains the tool to get of of jail while in midair,... but for 25MP. Aerial is expensive in PD. Warping to a dangling point is a good way to recover MP, but breaks the flow for me, and warping back close eats up quite a bit of MP anyway.

Lots of fun, & needs more tests.
