Playing windows games on Linux using Wine :
Final Fantasy 13-2

EDIT : 03/05/2017
- You can bypass the launcher by passing the following argument to the game exe file :
-Width=1280
-Height=720
-Shadow 512 (please note the "space" character as delimiter, there's no "equal" for this one)
-MSAA=2
-FullScreenMode=Force (for fullscreen mode)
-VoiceJPMode (to get the original japanese voices)
ie :
cd Steam/steamapps/common/FINAL FANTASY XIII-2/alba_data/prog/win/bin
wine ffxiii2img.exe -Width=1280 -Height=720 -Shadow 512 -MSAA=2

* As for me : Steam cloud makes the game crash when saving/autosaving
I had to disable steam cloud for this game (right click on the game name in steam library, menu properties/update)
Don't forget to backup your savegame (located in wineprefix/drive_c/users/_yourusername_/local Settings/Application Data/SquareEnix/FinalFantasyXIII-2)
* I had to play in window and 720p : Playing in 1080p results in textures becoming corrupted and the game eventually crashes
* Sometimes textures won't load properly (resulting in a broken/invisible character)
If it happens, close the game, try to close as many program as you can and try to launch it again (until it hopefully works)
Maybe a placebo, but sometimes it seems to load correctly in the early map of the game.

The sequel to Final Fantasy 13, unlike its predecessor, this game brings a huge non-linear adventure. Mainly because you'll travel through time in different timeline (and many side quests will require returning to the past or going to the future)
The adventure open up 3 years after Final Fantasy 13, in this altered timeline, Lightning (serah's sister) has vanished right after the final battle.
Serah will eventually meet noel (the last human being sent by Lightning to help her sister) and begin her journey to find lightning and repair the timeline.

This second entry in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series brought some update and refinement to the gameplay system :
- Updated character evolution system : The new crystarium brings more choice to the player (and not just "fill up" the stat)
- Random encounter system : Monster aren't freely roaming on the map anymore; they randomly appear
- Pet system : Capture and add monster to your party (each monster having one of the six role and will feature a crystarium just like noel and serah)

-- Installation --
1/ Getting wine + winetricks
2/ Using winetricks install steam
3/ Using winetricks install dotnet35
4/ Launch steam and download the game

-- Troubleshoot --
-The game tries to install dotnet each time you launch it
rename installscript.vdf en installscript.vdfbak in the steam folder
-Fixing dotnet
Installing dotnet35 on Linux can be troublesome, sometimes it just won't install properly. If dotnet ends up broken in your wineprefix, you can use microsoft's dotnetcleanuptool to cleanly uninstall dotnet from your wineprefix and try to install it again ( forcing a reinstall with winetricks script needs some tweaks tho, like editing the xpsep installation line if it's allready installed )

-- Performance note --
The framerate can be quite low in some area.
