Playing Roy Throughout the Years - Classic/Adventure Mode in SSBM, P+, 4, and Ult (Live Commentary)
Timestamps:
Melee: 0:00
Project Plus: 20:02
Smash 4: 32:25
Smash Ultimate: 44:51
This is a really cool idea I had thanks to PixxelTrixx. You should check him out:

Here's his playlist where he went through the evolution of Smash titles, and how Mario has changed over the years in Smash:

The reason Melee had some issues is because the emulator I was using (Slippi) is designed specifically for multiplayer, so it may have caused weird issues in single-player.
I do legally own Melee, so me emulating it was my own choice for convenience, and because my primary GC controller is currently stuck inside a cheap third-party adapter.
I'm also playing on "Faster Melee," a version of Melee built specifically for multiplayer and performing well on as many computers as possible, that also allows use of the C-stick for smash attacks in single-player modes.
Project Plus being featured may also be controversial to some, since it isn't an official Smash entry, and it's an unofficial continuation of an unofficial mod, but you can skip that part of the video if you'd like using the timestamps above.
In this video, I play through:
Melee: Adventure Mode (Normal)
Project Plus: Classic Mode (Normal)
Smash 4: Classic Mode (2.0)
Ultimate: Classic Mode (9.9, I did get KO'd and need a ticket to retain intensity)
I could have gone back and played Smash 4 and Ultimate's classic modes 'perfectly', or on a higher difficulty, but I was proud of the commentary I had during them
I wanted all of my re-visits to feel genuine, and done on the first take. I think it's more special to upload my initial attempts, rather than to continually re-do each classic mode until I beat them at the max difficulty without losing stocks or whatever. I'm just a guy sitting down and playing Smash to have fun, and to see my favorite character's evolution across entries, nothing more.
Roy's my favorite character who happens to be in Smash, and I love the dude to death. I like his kind, patient personality in Binding Blade, and how he grows over the course of the game + his supports.
Even if half his supports are 'bland' regarding him, and only develop the other character involved, and even if a lot of his development happens late in the game, being locked behind avoiding a bad ending, I still like Roy for who he is.
Besides his personality, I love his design. I like how he plays in Smash, and I like the characters he's close to (Lilina, Eliwood, Hector, Marcus, Allen, Lance, Wolt)
Here's a basic rundown of his tier placements across Smash:
Melee: Low-tier
4: Low-tier (but less linear than before, and with better match-ups against characters higher on the tier list than in Melee comparatively)
Ultimate: Top or high-tier (the engine changes and buffs REALLY benefit him)
For PM:
3.0: Mid, could be argued as high-tier, but fits more in upper-mid
3.6: Mid-tier, on the lower end due to nerfs and less tournament representation than before
P+: Probably mid-tier, we'll have to see once the meta develops
I'm really happy that he's finally meta-defining in a sense in Ultimate, and he's still really fun to play.
I'm just really happy he came back to the series in general, as someone who's wanted Roy to return to Smash for years.
I'm really glad I did this retrospective, and I'm proud of how it turned out.
