Playing The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild VR // BOTW First Person VR on Quest 2 // Will it VR?
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is one of the best games ever made in my opinion, an insanely dense open world with an almost infinite amount of things to see & do. So it makes perfect sense to try and make BOTW VR right? To create a real Zelda VR experience & explore The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild VR in the most immersive way possible? Well it's very unlikely that we'll ever get that from Nintendo BUT thanks to A LOT of hard work, multiple programs, some mods & most importantly patience, you can experience Breath of the Wild VR, AND Breath of the Wild first person, for yourself today on your Oculus Quest 2 or any other PC compatible VR headset (Quest 2 via link) - Is it worth it though? Let's find out. Breath of the Wild, Will it VR?
This is probably the most difficult Will it VR video I have ever put together, the end result of Zelda VR / BOTW VR / The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild first person VR is very cool but it isn't a true VR experience & the many steps it takes to get it working might not be worth it for many fans or VR gamers. To make this possible I followed multiple guides & tutorials, all in all it took around 2 and a half hours to get the game running in a stable state with 3D visuals & the most immersive screen possible on my Quest 2, it was a great experience & something that I'm sure all Zelda fans will enjoy, but this wasn't quite the Zelda Oculus Quest 2 / Zelda VR experience I had dreamed of. Without a head tracking it's hard to call this proper VR, the 3D is impressive, the BOTW first person mod goes a long way to immersing the player & the visuals really pull you into this world but it does feel jarring not being able to freely look around this version of Hyrule by simply turning your head.
If you want to try Breath of the Wild VR / BOTW VR on your Quest 2 or any other compatible PCVR headset (Quest 2 will require Oculus Link via a cable) then be prepared to put in a huge amount of work, the below video was my starting point & I went on to use multiple other tutorials to get everything working correctly:

For HUGE fans of The Legend of Zelda this VR Zelda experience is impressive & enjoyable but Will it VR? That's a very different question. It is certainly playable but given the amount of engineering it takes to get this to work correctly I'd have to say this was more of a 3D immersive screen experience than a full blown VR one. We'll just have to keep waiting for a true The Legend of Zelda VR game... Maybe one day...
