Xeno Fighters R is a shmup fangame inspired by the Raiden Fighters series by Seibu Kaihatsu. It is currently under development by Team XF.
The game has four original ships: the Amada Vipros, the Phyxius, the Zaiva, and the Xelcor. It also features guest fighters from other shoot 'em up games by Psikyo, Capcom, Konami, and others. There are 20 stages to play in the game with four different game modes to select from.
The story of Xeno Fighters R involves BRES, a group of humans subverted by the hostile Keto. BRES and the Keto extraterrestrials attack ATHENA through various periods in Earth's war history, using the wars as cover to their operations to destroy the Earth. The guest fighters do not have any connection to the story.
Xeno Fighters R has a long development history, starting in 1998.
The Raiden mk-IIβ is a Seibu Kaihatsu guest fighter. It originally comes from Raiden II as the second player blue version of the Raiden II Fighting Thunder craft. In its guest appearances in Raiden Fighters 2 and Raiden Fighters Jet, it gained a different loadout, received different attributes, and was given the name "Raiden mk-IIβ" to set it apart from the Raiden mk-II.
In Xeno Fighters R, the Raiden mk-IIβ copied almost directly the Raiden Fighters version of the fighter, including its design flaws, during the 2009 Game Maker 8 era. In the 2019 Game Maker Studio port, the mk-IIβ received quality-of-life improvements to its Wide Vulcan weapon, matching the changes the weapon underwent from Raiden III onward, redefining from its low-tier status in Raiden Fighters to one of the best fighters in Xeno Fighters R.
Compared to the Raiden mk-II, the Raiden mk-IIβ moves faster and has less flashy weapons. Its strength is the wide coverage it has with the Wide Vulcan at full power, granting it the best defensive coverage rating in the game. When attacking at point-blank range and all of the Wide Vulcan projectiles hitting a target, the Raiden mk-IIβ has extremely high damage potential, when coupled with the straight-firing Nuclear Missiles. Its weaknesses are the Wide Vulcan's poor effectiveness when far away from a target and its Bomber's being more of a defensive bomber than a damage-dealing attack. The Wide Vulcan at range from enemies limits the damage dealt to them with the firepower so widely spread out. Additionally, the Wide Vulcan rate of fire falls off at a distance.
This fighter uses both Missile and Laser weapons simultaneously. However, each needs to be powered up individually.
All Seibu Kaihatsu guest fighters are not invincible when using their Bomber.

Laser weapon
Wide Vulcan: At full power, this weapon fires in a wide arc in front of the fighter about 60 degrees left/right. The Raiden mk-IIβ starts with a 3-way spread shot of this weapon, compared to a single forward shot in the classic Raiden games and the Raiden Fighters games.
Missile weapon
Nuclear Missile: Shoots missiles that fire straight ahead, zigzagging slightly while moving. Upon hitting a target, a small blast occurs damaging the target and anything around it over time.
Cluster Bomb: A bomb that releases many tiny bomblets that carpet a wide area of the screen with explosions. It deploys instantly, and the bomblets also clear enemy bullets and damage enemies. This bomb is weaker compared to several others, better serving as a defensive measure than an offensive weapon.
