It is time to go to Pastoria City, and I show one path you can take there from Veilstone City, and there are some Trainers you can fight there, and a cave which has a special objective. There are some Collectors on this route, and they have such poor variety in their Pokémon, which Platinum made them unique in their own way.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

About why I referred to the Collectors having poor variety, they have three Pokémon of the same species, that is terrible variety, and that was what Platinum did better, the one with the Ponyta had Pokémon you would find in the Great Marsh, the one with the Buizel had a Porygon, and the one with the Roselia used all the Eeveelutions from Gen 1, this was what Platinum did better.
Speaking of Platinum, you would encounter Rhyhorn and Houndour on that route in that game, and you can find them in the Grand Underground, but instead of Houndour, you can find its evolved form Houndoom there. Starting with Rhyhorn, it is a Ground/Rock-type with a good Attack stat, and you can find Rhyhorn that know one of the Elemental Fangs, but it can get some other nice moves, like Crunch, Curse, Reversal, and a few others. It doesn't evolve until Level 42, so it will take a bit of time to get Rhyhorn evolved, and if you are wondering, the Protector, the item used to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior, is not obtained until the aftergame, so you will likely have Rhydon for the end of the game, but it is a solid option, but there is no Eviolite in the game to take advantage of.
Then for Houndoom, it is a Fire-type option available in this game if you don't want to use Ponyta, it doesn't get a Fire-type move until Level 30 when it learns Fire Fang, so it will be relying on Bite for its main move if you caught it before the second Gym. It does get some decent Egg Moves like Fire Spin if you need a Fire-type move on it before then, and Sucker Punch. You can teach it Flamethrower through TM to give Houndoom a good Special Fire-type move, the downside is that most of Houndoom's level up moves are Physical moves, so you will be relying on TMs like Dark Pulse and Sludge Bomb in order for Houndoom to get its good moves.
You can find Girafarig on this route, it is a 10% encounter on this route, and a 30% encounter in Valor Lakefront. Girafarig's best stat is Special Attack, and it can learn Thunderbolt, Psychic, and Dazzling Gleam through TM, and it does get some nice level up moves like Crunch and Nasty Plot, while it's not the best Pokémon there, Girafarig is a decent Psychic-type option, so it's there if you want to try one out. In Shining Pearl, Sudowoodo is available there. For items, you can find a Big Root, Max Potion, and Heart Scale.
Next is the Ruin Maniac's Cave, it will change based on the number of Unown found, it starts off small, but it will expand when you caught 10 Unown, and it will be finished once you caught all 26 different forms of Unown, and this gives you access to the Unown forms ! and ?, and there is one new encounter in Ruin Maniac's Cave, or Maniac Tunnel if you caught all 26 Unown, that Pokémon is Hippopotas, it starts off as a 5% encounter, then it becomes a 10%, and then 20%, so it becomes more common the more Unown you catch, but you can find Hippopotas in the Grand Underground really soon. Hippopotas is a defensive Ground-type Pokémon that will come with Dig and Crunch when caught, you can teach it Bulldoze through TM to give it a good Ground-type move. While it does evolve at Level 34, I would recommend keeping Hippopotas from evolving until Level 40, which is when it learns Earthquake, because its evolved form Hippowdon doesn't learn it until Level 44. Another good thing is Hippowdon can learn the Elemental Fangs through the Move Relearner, but there is a downside, Hippopotas has Sand Stream for its Ability, which can hinder its teammates as the sandstorm lasts for 5 turns in this game, in the original games, the sandstorm was permanent. As for Egg Moves, Hippopotas can learn Stockpile, Curse, Whirlwind, Body Slam, and Revenge for possible moves, and if you got your third Badge, the Pokémon in the Grand Underground are at Levels 29 to 33, so you can get a Hippopotas there that is closer to evolution. One other thing about the Grand Underground is you can find Pokémon at Levels 29 to 33, and as for items you can get in the Oreburgh part of the Grand Underground, you can get TMs for Toxic, Bug Buzz, Focus Punch, and X-Scissor, and you can get some interesting items, like the Deep Sea Tooth, which can be equipped to Clamperl to give it a 50% boost to its Special Attack stat, and allows for it to evolve into Huntail when traded.
