I am playing as Pokémon Trainer in this video, and one thing when playing as Pokémon Trainer is that whichever Pokémon you select on the roster, let's say you start with Squirtle, you start every match with Squirtle, so you have to press Y or select the Pokémon to change it, the order being Squirtle, Ivysaur, and then Charizard. What I do is I randomize a list to decide my next few characters that I will use, but I have the playlist displayed in roster order. Another bit of trivia is that the Announcer does not say the names of the Pokémon, even though Charizard was playable in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U, and this is the same Announcer from those games, and there is voice clips where the Announcer says "Charizard" in those games, but then again for Mii Fighters, the Announcer just says "Mii" in Smash 4, while he says "Mii Brawler", "Mii Swordfighter", and "Mii Gunner" in this game.
To unlock Pokémon Trainer, there are many different ways, and one of them is through Vs. Matches, where Pokémon Trainer is the 26th character to be unlocked, and he is the 2nd character unlocked by completing Classic Mode with Donkey Kong or anyone in his unlock tree after Bowser.
Pokémon Trainer's Classic Mode route is The Future Champion, and all of his opponents on that route are characters from the Pokémon series, much like Pikachu's Classic Mode route, and items are switched off. Pikachu happens to be Pokémon Trainer's first opponent on his Classic Mode route, you fight Pikachu on Pokémon Stadium. In Round 2, you fight Jigglypuff on the same stage, that is Pokémon Stadium, in Round 3, you fight Lucario on Unova Pokémon League, then in Round 4, your opponent is Incineroar, and you fight it on Kalos Pokémon League, then in Round 5, you fight Greninja on Pokémon Stadium 2, and in Round 6, you fight the Pokémon Trainer of the opposite gender.
Next is the Bonus Stage, and at the end, your opponent is Mewtwo, who you fight on Final Destination, after defeating Mewtwo, Master Hand shows up, and you only fight him, a Maxim Tomato does spawn when Master Hand appears right after beating Mewtwo.
When you have completed Classic Mode, the credits play, and the music for completing Classic Mode with Pokémon Trainer is the Main Theme from Pokémon Red & Blue, the Brawl remix, and you control the Pokémon that you selected during then, and you earn the Fighter Spirit for Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, while the Pokémon Trainers are obtained through the shop.
