I am taking on the Veilstone Gym, which specializes in Fighting-type Pokémon, so you might need some Flying, Psychic, or Fairy-type Pokémon to take on the Gym Trainers, and as well as Maylene, the Gym Leader of Veilstone City, and she has some very powerful Fighting-type Pokémon to deal with in that Gym Battle.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

In this part, I enter Veilstone Gym, which is a Fighting-type Gym, and I evolve my Clefairy into Clefable before entering, I got these Moon Stones from wild Cleffa in Mt. Coronet with my Murkrow, which I taught Thief to and as it had Super Luck, this allowed me to get a 20% chance of finding Cleffa holding Moon Stones.
The Black Belts in this Gym are known as the Karate Quad, and most of them use Machoke, these Machoke have good type coverage, one of them has Poison Jab, one has Rock Tomb, and one has three Machoke that know Ground-type moves, like Bulldoze and Earthquake, the Gym Trainers are not to be underestimated. If you caught a Kadabra on Route 215 and gave it Psychic through TM, you can take out the Machoke without too much problems, but the Meditite in this Gym take neutral damage from Psychic-type moves, so if you have Staravia, you can use Wing Attack or Aerial Ace to beat the Meditite.
As for the Gym puzzle, you have to push the walls around to create a path to Maylene, and she is a really tricky Gym Leader, I will go over her team and why she is considered a tough battle.
Meditite: Drain Punch, Light Screen, Flash, Bulk Up (Light Clay)
Machoke: Low Sweep, Knock Off, Rock Tomb, Bulldoze (Expert Belt)
Lucario: Drain Punch, Screech, Metal Claw, Bulk Up (Big Root)

Maylene has some very powerful Fighting-type Pokémon, her Meditite knows Bulk Up to boost its Attack and Defense, and it knows Light Screen, and with the Light Clay, this will ensure Light Screen lasts for 8 turns, so use Physical Attacks against it, preferably Staravia's Aerial Ace. Machoke has an Expert Belt to boost the power of its super effective moves by 20%, and it has type coverage against Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon, but it doesn't have anything super effective against Fairy-type Pokémon, so don't take Machoke that lightly. Lucario is a really strong Pokémon at this point in the game, it knows Bulk Up, and it has a Big Root so that it will heal more damage when it uses Drain Punch, and Lucario takes neutral damage from all types Fighting is weak to because of its Steel-type, so Fire, Ground, or Fighting-type moves are good against it. If Lucario sets up Bulk Up and uses Screech, it is capable of sweeping your team, specially if it gets an Attack boost from Metal Claw. If you watch this video, you will see how not going over the level of the upcoming Gym Leader's highest level Pokémon can make this really challenging.
After beating Maylene, she will give you the Cobble Badge, some Stickers that she uses for her Lucario, and the TM for Drain Punch, a Fighting-type move that heals HP after dealing damage, some good Pokémon to teach the move to are Meditite or Lopunny if you are using them.
When you leave the Gym, Dawn will tell you that Team Galactic has stolen her Pokédex, so you have to go and fight Team Galactic in a Double Battle. One Grunt has Beautifly and Stunky, and the other has Dustox and Croagunk, they are not too difficult if you have the right counters. I will go over Dawn's team, or Lucas's team if you are playing as the girl, their lead Pokémon is Clefairy, which has Disarming Voice as its only attacking move, and it can use Life Dew to heal your side of the field. If Clefairy is knocked out, the next Pokémon is Kadabra, which can take out Dustox and Croagunk easily, but it will have a tough time against Stunky. Dawn or Lucas will have the starter yours has the type advantage against, so in this case as I picked Chimchar, they will have Grotle, if you chose Piplup, they will have Monferno, and if you picked Turtwig, they'll have Prinplup.
After beating the Galactic Grunts, enter the storage room and you can pick up the TM for Fly, and this will unlock the Hidden Move Fly, with that, you can fly on a Staraptor to places you have previously visited, so you will want to pick it up so that you can use Fly to access earlier areas.
