This segment started with the Rocket Grunt with the Ekans family. I needed a bit of luck here to OHKO Shandshrew and 2HKO Arbok with Ember. Sandshrew survived, but I got a critical hit on Arbok. This Grunt was really brainless because his Ekans kept on using Leer or Glare on a Level 2 Rattata. Giovanni was next and I used Brick Break on all his Pokémon. Onix and Rhyhorn are 2HKO's, but Kangaskhan can survive. I got another critical hit on it and 2HKO'd it. I picked up the Devon Scope and used Dig to leave.
I went into the Department Store and bought Super Potions, Super Repels, X-Attacks and X-Specials. I also got HM Fly and taught it to Spearow. I entered the gym and two trainers were required to fight, but they are easily defeated. Erika is also a joke with Charmeleon. Her Victreebel, Tangela and Vileplume are all OHKO'd by Flamethrouwer. I flew back to Lavander Town and entered the Pokémon Tower.

Saved at 1:15 with a L35 Charmeleon.
