7th gym on our adventure and I can already notice my team catching up in levels, with Erratic mons taking less experience than usual (that's my feeling; didn't do the research this time) and not having to bring up any more newcomers from low levels (after Sudoowodo who wasn't lagging behind too terribly).
I'm usually fond of using Geodude on my Pokemon runs (not so much in the recentest games of course), so it feels strange to walk into an ice-type gym and actually use your rock-type Pokemon, since Sudowoodo isn't half-ground, though he's still nailed with a super-effective STAB by both Abomasnow (Wood Hammer) and Piloswine (Earthquake), latter probably survivable but still the matchup for Sudowoodo is a bad one.
Still, I think the rocks / rock-grounds aren't as bad in the post-Johto games as some people like to portray them.
Candice uses a different Pokemon line-up than she did in Diamond/Pearl, introducing Piloswine and Froslass, latter her main Pokemon which, I think, is a better choice than Abomasnow who's slow and has so many common weaknesses.
The lead Sneasel is easily taken care of by Sudowoodo, not dealing any significant damage and OHKOing by targeting its minuscule physical defence.
Piloswine shouldn't be a big problem but I still had the Choice Specs on my Lumineon (who has 3 special moves and thus functions pretty well as a special nuke) so I took care of him with ease.
Abomasnow could be OHKO'd by Choice Specs!Altaria using Flamethrower, but since it was on Lumineon I had to be safer and not expose myself to the Avalanche OHKO. Kricketune can take Hail damage + a boosted Avalanche at full HP and 2HKO. Birrick Aboma decided to gamble with Focus Blast instead, though.
I had nothing that could OHKO Froslass, but Sudowoodo could occasionally do that on high rolls when attacking with Rock Slide. He was on the brink of existence there, whiffing after Double Team, but Sucker Punch's priority (it's actually such a wonderful move for a really slow mon - too bad it hasn't got much PP) helped me prevail in a timely manner.
Not the hardest of battles yet again, but we all know how good of a typing ice is defensively. The electric-gym next ahead is pretty much the opposite of that, so that's something to look forward to!
