Here is the next game for Nintendo 64 - Nintendo Switch Online, and this one I was not expecting to see come to that, it is Pokémon Puzzle League, which came out in 2000 for the Nintendo 64, and it was never released in Japan. This game is based on Panel de Pon, otherwise known as Tetris Attack, and this game has characters from the Pokémon Anime, so this is the only video game to be based on the Anime, unless Pokémon Yellow counts.
In this game, Ash receives an invitation from Professor Oak to participate in the Pokémon Puzzle League, so he heads to Puzzle Village to complete, and he takes on various opponents, like his rival Gary, as well as the Gym Leaders of the Kanto region to earn their Badges.
I will be doing 1P Stadium on Easy Mode, there are three difficulty settings, and the Pokémon chosen by your opponent are dependant on which difficulty setting you chose, if you picked Easy, your opponent will pick the third Pokémon, so in this case, Gary would pick Krabby, on Normal, your opponent picks the second Pokémon, that is Growlithe in this case, and on Hard, your opponent picks the first Pokémon, and that is Nidoran Female.
You play as Ash in 1P Stadium, his team is Pikachu, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur, and this game does not have type match-ups, instead you do combos and chains to try and beat your opponent.
Going over each of his opponents, you go up against Gary in the first round, his team is Nidoran Female, Growlithe, and Krabby, some of the Pokémon used referenced to the Anime, Gary did catch a Krabby in the Anime, and while he was not revealed to own a Nidoran or a Growlithe, he did own their final evolved forms at some point in the main series.
Next is Brock, his team is Geodude, Vulpix, and Zubat, all three he owned in the Anime, and on Easy, he uses Zubat, beat him to earn the Boulder Badge. You go up against Misty in the second round, both Brock and Misty were Ash's travel companions in the Anime, but anyway, Misty's team is Horsea, Psyduck, and Staryu, all three she owned in the Anime. Next round is Lt. Surge, and his team is Raichu, Jolteon, and Magneton, he did own Raichu in the Anime, but he was never shown to own a Jolteon or a Magneton, he did use them in the main series games. The next Gym Leader is Erika, her team is Tangela, Weepinbell, and Gloom, all three she owned in the Anime and in the games, next is Koga, he has Venomoth, Voltorb, and Golbat, both Venomoth and Golbat he did own in the games, and while Voltorb might be an unusual choice, Koga does keep a bunch of Voltorb in his Gym in the Anime. The next opponent is Sabrina, and she has Abra, Hypno, and Alakazam, she did own an Abra in the Anime, which evolved into Kadabra, but she was never shown to own a Hypno or an Alakazam, and in the main series games, Alakazam is her signature Pokémon. After that is Blaine, his team is Arcanine, Charmeleon, and Magmar, and out of the three, Magmar is the one he owned in the Anime, he does use Arcanine in the main series games, and he never owns Charmeleon in any way other than this game, in the Anime, Blaine's team was Ninetales, Rhydon, and Magmar, I remember his Rhydon because of the "Aim for the horn" meme where Ash had Pikachu use Thunderbolt on Rhydon's horn.
After that, our opponent is Tracey, a character that was introduced in the Orange Islands and replaced Brock as Ash's travelling companion, and he would then become Professor Oak's assistant, his team is Marill, Venonat, and Scyther, all three he owned in the Orange Islands series. Next is Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket, and their team is Weezing, Arbok, and Golbat, don't know why Golbat as Team Rocket never owned one, and why they didn't get either Lickitung or Victreebel, which they did own at some point.
After that is Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket and the Puzzle Master, and he is the final opponent on Easy Mode, his team is Persian, Sandslash, and Nidoking, he does own Persian in the Anime, he does use Nidoking in the main series games, and the only time he has even owned Sandslash in the main series games was in Pokémon Black 2 & White 2.
I will go which Pokémon they pick on Easy Mode, one other thing is that the songs that play are based on various songs from the Pokémon Anime.
Gary: Krabby
Brock: Zubat
Misty: Staryu
Lt. Surge: Magneton
Erika: Gloom
Koga: Golbat
Sabrina: Alakazam
Blaine: Magmar
Tracey: Scyther
Team Rocket: Golbat
Giovanni: Nidoking
