It's time to choose my starter and it will be a Mudkip. I only take a Rash or Mild Mudkip with the best possible stats for Attack, Special Attack and Speed when it is at L5. Otherwise, I just reset, and I did that a lot. The battle with the Poochyena is easy and then it is time to search for our rival.
Getting attacked by wild Pokémon can be annoying if it happens a lot. I managed to get to the rival and only got attacked twice. The rival's Treecko goes down easely with 4 Tackles. Then I receive the Pokédex from Birch and the Running Shoes from mom.
