It is time for this year's Halloween event for Pokémon Sword & Shield, and it is from October 29th till October 31st, you can find a bunch of Dark and Ghost-type Pokémon in the Max Raid Battles. The following Pokémon you can encounter during the event will be Zoroark, Sableye, Dusknoir, Corviknight, and Thievul, and there is a very rare chance you can encounter a Shiny Zoroark in the Max Raid Battles. I also show my Shiny Zamazenta in this video, this is the one that you can get through a distribution from your local game shop, or you live in the UK, you can go onto GAME online store and get your code for Shiny Zamazenta and Shiny Zacian for your Sword & Shield games.
I will go over each of the Pokémon you can encounter, and starting things off is Zoroark, and there is a 2% chance of finding a guaranteed Shiny Zoroark. While it does have the Illusion Ability, which when paired up with a Poison or Fighting-type Pokémon, it can be a good way to surprise Psychic-type Pokémon that try to use a Psychic-type move against it, but with Team Preview, you know your opponent is using a Zoroark, so it won't surprise players. Zoroark has high Speed and good attacking stats, with a preference in Special Attack, and it can use moves like Night Daze, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Sludge Bomb, Extrasensory, Focus Blast, Grass Knot, and many others, and it can use Nasty Plot to boost its Special Attack. Zoroark can even be used as a Physical Attacker, as it can learn moves like Knock Off, Night Slash, Sucker Punch, Bounce, Low Sweep, and Throat Chop, but its Physical movepool is quite limited, but it can be used as a decent Mixed Attacker.
Next up is Sableye, its Hidden Ability is Prankster, which is the Ability you want on Sableye, despite its underwhelming base stats, Sableye can surprisingly be good in battle, it learns a wide variety of status moves, like Will-O-Wisp, Recover, Trick, Disable, Quash, Imprison, Encore, Taunt, and many others, and it can use Ally Switch in a Double Battle. Sableye doesn't really need any attacking moves, Knock Off or Foul Play usually fill in for a move to deal direct damage, as Will-O-Wisp and Recover are what Sableye usually has for moves in battle.
The next one is Dusknoir, its Hidden Ability is Frisk, while helpful in Double Battles, specially as it can learn Poltergeist, I find that Pressure is the better Ability for Dusknoir, and it is outclassed by its pre-evolved form Dusclops, which can make use of the Eviolite. Dusknoir does have a good Attack stat, and it can use moves like Earthquake, Shadow Sneak, Brick Break, and the Elemental Punches, and it is a decent user of Trick Room, and it does have some good defensive stats, but its HP stat is quite low, so at least Dusknoir has better Attack than Dusclops, while Dusclops with the Eviolite can take hits better than Dusknoir.
Despite Corviknight not being a Dark-type or a Ghost-type, and being a Steel/Flying-type, it does fit in well for this event. The Corviknight in this event will be in their Dynamax form, and while it is a Pokémon that is Gigantamax capable, Dynamax is usually preferred on Corviknight because of the boost in Speed from Max Airstream. While G-Max Wind Rage when Gigantamaxed is helpful in removing entry hazards and screens, much like Defog, so it's there if you want to go with it. Corviknight has very solid stats, with Defense being its best, and it has a good Attack stat to make use of with moves like Iron Head and Brave Bird, and to make use of its Defense stat, it can use Body Press with either Bulk Up or Iron Defense, and it does get some nice status moves, like Roost, Tailwind, Defog, and many other moves, and Corviknight's Hidden Ability is Mirror Armor, which bounces back stat-lowering effects it would receive, like an Attack drop from Intimidate.
The last one out of the event Pokémon is Thievul, its best stat is Special Defense, and it has a good Speed stat, despite being kind of average in terms of stats. Its Hidden Ability is Stakeout, this allows Thievul to deal double damage to the opponent's replacement Pokémon if they switch out. Unburden is the preferred Ability for Thievul, because it can pair well with a Pokémon that can set up terrain, like Rillaboom, Indeedee, or Tapu Fini, and Thievul can use the seed from that terrain to boost its Defense or Special Defense, and it can use Snarl to lower the opponent's Special Defense, and it does some good status moves like Taunt, Fake Tears, and many others, and in a Double Battle, Thievul can use Howl to boost the Attack stat of its side of the field, and with the Throat Spray, this will activate Unbruden, or if it uses Snarl. Thievul does get some decent coverage moves, like Psychic, Burning Jealousy, Grass Knot, and a few other moves, and while it's not the best Pokémon, it does get some decent moves.
