0We did just get a Maximus Cup about three weeks ago, and it was the unexpected Monster Hunter Rise, but here we get one themed around Metroid Dread, which did release on the day the tie-in event with Monster Hunter Rise happened.
Metroid Dread released on October 8th of this year, and a bit of trivia, it was originally in development for the DS in 2006 as a sequel to Metroid Fusion for the GBA, which released in 2002 and was the last 2D Metroid game that was not a remake. The past 2D Metroid games in between were Metroid: Zero Mission, which released in 2003 for the GBA, which was a remake of the original Metroid for the NES, and in 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS was Metroid: Samus Returns, which was a remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy.
As for the Tetris 99 tie-in event, when you score 100 points, you can unlock the Metroid Dread theme for Tetris 99, and I do like how the icon used is the Screw Attack, a power-up that Samus uses in the Metroid series, and I do like how Chozo writing is used when counting down before the start of a Tetris 99 match. Even though we did get a Tetris 99 Maximus Cup this month, it was a good thing they ended it off with Metroid Dread, because this is one of the games most people were expecting to see Tetris 99 tie-in with, and it did happen.
