Nintendo 64 - Nintendo Switch Online is now out, and one of the games included is Mario Kart 64, this is the second Mario Kart game in the series, after Super Mario Kart for the SNES. This game released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64, and now with 3D graphics, it improved on many things now that it is on the Nintendo 64. This is the first Mario Kart game to have Mini-Turbo and drifting, which I didn't know about until Mario Kart DS, and it is the first Mario Kart game to have unique tracks instead of repeating the same track, but with a few differences.
As I have played Mario Kart 64 quite a lot back in the day, I will be doing the Mario Kart 64 Grand Prix, much like what I have been doing with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I will be starting with the Mushroom Cup on 50cc, and I am using Mario in this one, he is one of the two medium weight characters in the game, the other being Luigi, and they tend to be the most balanced in terms of acceleration and handling. This game introduced new items, the Triple Mushroom, Super Mushroom, Fake Item Box, Banana Bunch, Triple Shells, and the Spiny Shell. The Fake Item Box has not made any Mario Kart appearances since Mario Kart Wii, and the Spiny Shell will always hit the racer in 1st place, and another name for that item is the Blue Shell.
This is the first game in the Mario Kart series where Wario and Donkey Kong are playable characters, replacing Koopa Troopa and Donkey Kong Jr. from the previous game.
I do the Mushroom Cup in this video, the tracks are Luigi Raceway, Moo Moo Farm, Koopa Troopa Beach, and Kalimari Desert, I do like the music in Mario Kart 64, specially Luigi Raceway, because hearing that song reminds me of back in the day when I played this game on the Nintendo 64.
After the Grand Prix is the Awards Ceremony, where you get to see Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64, and one bit of detail is that while the three racers that places in the first three positions are in that scene, you can see the fourth place racer all the way in the back, and if you place fourth, there is a special scene where you will drive away from the Awards Ceremony and get blown up by a bomb.
There is another bit of trivia that I want to go over, in the Japanese version, Mario was not the announcer, a narrator is used for the system voice, and Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Wario had different voice clips, some of their clips would then be used in the first two Mario Party games, and were kept in Mario Kart: Super Circuit for the GBA.
