This Wild Area Event ties in with Lunar New Year, and as 2021 is the Year of the Ox, there are increased appearances from Pokémon like Tauros, Miltank, and Bouffalant, and there is a 2% chance of encountering a guaranteed Shiny Tauros in the Max Raid Battles. This event is live from January 22nd till January 24th, and only three different species of Pokémon, but they have different rewards, like which Normal-type TRs you would get from them.
To start things off is Tauros, and there is a very rare chance you can find a Shiny Tauros through Max Raid Battles. Tauros's Hidden Ability is Sheer Force, and it has good Speed and Attack, although it wasn't like back in Red & Blue where these stats was a big deal in the competitive scene, as there are Pokémon with higher stats than Tauros. With Sheer Force, this pairs up well with a Life Orb, and Tauros can use some really powerful Physical moves, like Body Slam, Throat Chop, Close Combat, Iron Head, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Zen Headbutt, Double-Edge, and many other moves. Fire Blast has seen use on Tauros, despite its very low Special Attack stat, I guess this is a way to surprise Steel-types like Skarmory and Ferrothorn that would otherwise wall Tauros. In Double Battles, Tauros usually has Anger Point, and one of its most popular teammates is Froslass, which can use Frost Breath to maximize Tauros's Attack stat after a critical hit, and when Dynamaxed, Tauros can sweep entire teams with some very powerful Max Moves, it can use Max Steelspike and Max Quake from Iron Head and High Horsepower to boost its defenses, and Max Strike from Double-Edge can really hurt if the opponent does not resist Normal-type moves, but it does require set-up from its teammates.
Next is Miltank, which is considered to be the counterpart to Tauros, its best stats are Defense and Speed, and Miltank is the only Pokémon in this game to know Milk Drink, so it has a recovery move, and it can use some different status moves like Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock, Charm, and many others. Its Hidden Ability is Sap Sipper, giving it an Attack boost and an immunity to Grass-type moves, and it does get some good Physical moves like Body Slam, Play Rough, Earthquake, and many other moves, and with Scrappy, Body Slam and Seismic Toss are all Miltank needs for attacking moves, Milk Drink and Thunder Wave can fill in the last two slots, and it can use Body Press as an alternative if using a defensive set.
The last one out of the three is Bouffalant, it has high Attack and decently good bulk, but its Speed is kind of low. Bouffalant is the only Pokémon that can learn Head Charge, it is basically the same as Double-Edge, but was made to be Bouffalant's signature move. Its Hidden Ability of Soundproof isn't worth having, because Reckless and Sap Sipper are already good enough Abilities for it. Bouffalant can learn a lot of recoil moves, like Head Charge and Wild Charge, and it can use Swords Dance to boost its Attack so it can deal some heavy hits, while Sap Sipper gives it an immunity to Grass-type moves and an Attack boost. It can learn a wide variety of Physical moves, like Close Combat, Megahorn, Iron Head, Throat Chop, Rock Slide, Payback, Earthquake, Poison Jab, Stone Edge, Zen Headbutt, High Horsepower, and many other moves.
I did look into Serebii.net, and there is news about players being banned for modifying their save data, and hacked Pokémon cannot be put on the GTS, but it didn't ban certain users like Machamps.com on Surprise Trade. They also announced the 8th Series of Ranked Battles where you can use one Restricted Legendary Pokémon, like Mewtwo, Zacian, Calyrex, or any others, but Mythical Pokémon cannot be used. I did attempt to try out Zarude in the Max Raid Battles, but I still cannot use it, I wonder if they will ever put an update that will allow you to use Zarude online, because I have not yet tried Zarude in online battles to see if it prevents me from using it.
Another bit of news, Zacian is banned from Ubers, this is the second Pokémon to be banned from the Uber tier, first was Mega Rayquaza way back in Gen 6, the power of Behemoth Blade and the Attack boost is so overpowering, it is enough to get Zacian banned from Ubers.
