Pontiff Sulyvahn S20 Pt2 Let's Play Dark Souls 3
0Ok, so the Pontiff Sulyvahn can be a bit frustrating but the number 1 killer of me in this was panic dodging. Panic dodging here is a huge no-no. Why? Well in the second phase his clone will charge you and if you panic and roll backwards.. well it rarely (if ever) works very well. The key is remaining calm and timing his swings.
So let's start with the strategy breakdown. Phase 1 is where you're going to realize he WILL keep swinging well past when you think he should. Get used to it now, he'll do it the whole rest of the fight. If you're using a fast weapon (lucky you) this fight is so much easier I'd imagine. He rarely gives slow weapons a chance to hit him without being punished. They do exist but you have to seize them the moment they present themselves.
Phase 2 is where the proverbial crap hits the fan. At first he kneels down and a dark aura permeates around him. You can hit him here once if you're using a faster weapon but be aware there's tick damage every second you're in it. At the end of which there's a big explosion so move back after getting a hit in. After this he holds his sword up and seemingly just stands there, do not give respite he's preparing to make life hell for you, so get in there and swing. (but don't deplete all your stamina)
Now once the clone is out things are at their worst, when the clone does something usually Sulyvahn do the same thing. So if you see the clone charge you, ROLL twice toward them. I repeat roll TOWARD them twice, if you roll back.. well watch the video. That's their most dangerous (for me) attack. Their other attacks of note are 2 jumping attacks. One they simply jump up and charge you, a simple side roll will suffice. However if you see fire, either sprint away, or to be safe, guard with a fire resistant shield. It'll hit twice but with 20 endurance I was able to stand it.
