Prototype (Part 3 / Finale)
Original stream date: 09/03/2024
Decided to just get the rest of this out the way before moving onto other things.
As I said, game is cool, has a good story and some really good ideas behind a lot of the gameplay, it is mostly hampered by the awful control scheme, weird oddities with some of the moves that seem counter-intuitive to how they should work, some obscenely frustrating mission design, some really annoying enemies, and some other really weird quirks probably related to the engine (basically a 'death by a thousand cuts' scenario).
. . .
Think my main problem outside of the frustrating missions and weird power design (specifically with the whipfist's grab attack just acting like a normal damage attack for no reason), there was that entire series of normal attacks that can only be done when in regular human form. Those, in my personal opinion, should've just been unlocked automatically in the game's first half as it progressed.
I ended up not really interacting with anything in that section of the upgrades because I was actively prioritizing Mercer's transformations and expensive attacks that go alongside the transformations over them. Had I not done that, this game probably would've been infinitely tougher, especially on the bosses.
. . .
Prototype 2, if I recall, improves on most of this, while not having anywhere near as good of a story as the first game. I will probably not play Prototype 2 for a while, mostly because Activision pricing is extremely bad and means the game costs $40 on Steam for no good reason. Gotta wait for it to go on sale to get it at a more reasonable price because Activision sucks.
(Update 9/23/2024) It went on sale for $10 (y'know, an actual reasonable price), so I can now play Prototype 2.
