PS2 Killer7 - Normal Speed Run in 3:12:12
11Originally, my plan was to do a PS2 Killer7 run on April Fools’ 2022, get an all-but-guaranteed PB, and then not speed run the PS2 version again. Alas, during that April Fools’ run, I had an unfortunate death and wound up not getting a PB. While I was somewhat conflicted about doing another run as PS2 Killer7 running is basically a joke, “a good man finishes he started,” and I needed closure since I’ve slowly come to a strange peace with PS2 Killer7. The PS2 version is infamously bad, almost to surreal levels. It seems like almost every time I stream it, I come across some strange new glitch or discovery (in addition to the myriad of weird things we already knew about), and this run was no different. While some things carry over from GCN/PC, playing PS2 is a rather different experience, and this speed run required a good bit of testing to figure out what still worked, what didn’t, and what could be done. Overall, this run went nicely, and I’m really glad that I decided to attempt it again even after the April Fools’ stream. As I said, I’ve come to a strange peace with PS2 Killer7, so I really wasn’t straining against it nearly as much as I used (though certainly not devoid of it entirely, mind you). A few things were lackluster (see Kurahashi/Akiba), but for the most part, I was playing well and gaining time on most chapters. There’s still more time to save, but even with my aforementioned peace, I really cannot speed run this version for that long, so I’m letting it sit for the time being. My last PS2 run before this one was over five years ago (in January 2017), so we’ll see if it’ll take another five years for me to come back.
Side note: my old GCN PB is about thirty minutes faster than this run, and my PC PB is literally over an hour faster.
Of course, it wouldn’t be PS2 without some never-before-seen glitch, so check out 1:45:45 where both the wind sound effect and fire sound effect got stuck. If nothing else, finding weird bits is a game to itself when streaming this version. PS2, man...
