On January 19th, 2022, I had the opportunity to showcase No More Heroes on The Bargain Bin, a show on the GDQ Hotfix run by Midnight Vesper showcasing games under $20. The theme of the night was back-up speed runs for AGDQ 2022 that didn't make it to the marathon. My personal goal was to give both a display of the speed run and share as much about the game as possible (fun facts, trivia, inspirations, etc.).

Overall, I'm really happy with how everything went. I don't run in these types of events/marathons very often, so I wasn't quite sure if my plans would really work, but all in all, things well went, and it seemed like it resonated with the audience. I got through about 80% of the topics I wanted to mention, which is good because I wasn't expecting to talk about everything possible (and believe me, I could talk about NMH and Suda 51 as a whole for hours). In particular, I want to dig more into the version differences (for instance, I never mentioned Heavenly Star, though chat did talk about it) and talk more about the other Suda 51 games leading to NMH1 (more about TSC/FSR and the loose "sword action" trilogy with Blood+ and Samurai Champloo), but I still touched upon a ton of different things, so I'm not too sad about what was missed.

The speed run itself was solid. I was playing pretty well, and saw some really nice stuff (like the gold Shinobu fight) and some really weird stuff (some strange enemy behaviors). Alas, I did lose about three minutes at the very end due to messing up a QTE time save at the bike chase, but if nothing else, it gave me more time to talk, and I was still under estimate, so not a big deal in the long run. I know the audience was particularly impressed about the ludicrously fast boss kills, so I'm glad that made an impact. And of course, everyone loved Jeane.

I'd like to thank Midnight Vesper and GamesDoneQuick for the opportunity of showcasing No More Heroes to such a big audience. I hope my run was able to show more dimensions to the game than people might have expected.
