Welcome back to Let's Play Elden Ring with your good bawd, Adam of the Deep Dark Boys.

So that thing with the elevator.. happened. And now we're in the thick of it! Welcome to the Center of the Earth! We may not stay long for, you see, Farkwad is frightened. But that's okay, because we've absolutely loads to do elsewhere, and we're about to get sidetracked into oblivion on a whole new set of misadventures. We'll keep the fun comin', you just sit back with your popcorn.

Let's Play Elden Ring. Episode 13. Featuring everybody's favorite Aristocrat Confessor, Lord Farkwad. Not to mention a heaping helping of forts, pumpkins, bears, goblins, caves, golems, mariners and more. You name it? WE GOT IT!

Fresh off a caravan killing, a plant genocide, a (temporary) loss to the keeper of an EVERGAOL, and a ferocious rematch with that bastard TREE FELLOW!, plus a monstrous, dragon-sized victory, and our skullduggery in the Stonedigger Troll's cavern... Not Enough for You?! How about THREE CONSECUTIVE CATACOMB CRAWLS?! ... we're extending our search to the outer limits of the first map and boy.. it just keeps throwing surprises our way.

Between episodes 6 and 7 I took some time off between episodes to ride around the open world on Falcor, kill some baddies, farm some runes, and keep an eye out for things that look fun! And ever since that fateful decision was made, things have been really looking up for us. This game is EVENTFUL, man!

I markered up my map with those things, and now I'm back to check em out with you guys. But we've cleaned off the majority of the markers I made. It's time to broaden the search.. It's time to head Eastwards! And.. DOWNWARDS?!

There is so much to love in Elden Ring's open world. They've taken so many great cues from other AAA entries to the open world lexicon, and they've done away with so many tomfooleries that have badgered us all for as long as we can remember. They've trimmed the fat on what is unsavory, and they've fattened that goose all the way to oblivion with the sweetest goldang sauce I've ever tasted.

What am I talking about?! WHO KNOWS! I think you might just have to watch the video to find out.

Fear not! I'm not a total lost cause when it comes to FromSoftware and their bullish batch of buckwild backwater butcheries. I've taken a few of them down in my day, and I've come to not only understand but to love the art of the dodge roll. It's going to take me a while to squirt the oil onto the old cogs, but once those hinges are greased, we're going to be double jumping a magic goat across a green grassy knoll in NO TIME!

So for now, please, enjoy the plight of the trolls, and a trip into a deep dark cave. My absolute refusal to play alongside audience expectations. My obsession with the impossible. My resistance to form. This is Episode 11... of ELDEN.. RING.

I can't believe it's here. Really it is quite difficult to process that the legendary FromSoftware has actually dropped this extremely mystifying open-world game. The little hints and teaser trailers we've gotten over the past couple of years have been as exciting as anything in the gaming universe. Feels otherworldly that we now hold it in our hands.

But what I REALLY can't believe is how FREAKING GOOD IT IS! This is all the best components of the historical Demon's Souls / Dark Souls / Bloodborne / Sekiro run, mashed together and polished up with a beautiful dark fantasy skin (story beats courtesy of the legendary George RR Martin!)

The open world is looking to be quite insane, and the sheer lack of handholding going on is really intriguing. I am personally burning way out on open world games lately - things like Assassin's Creed are pure cannon fodder, and even phenomenal open-world titles like Ghost of Tsushima tend to feel rote. You're just on a hamster wheel, knocking objectives off one after another. It's endless and it's soulless and that's a bad combo.

So anyhow. Elden Ring looks to break that mold. By dishing out serious challenges, gifting us with incredible level and creature design, and essentially leaving the direction of it all up to us entirely, FromSoftware has guaranteed that their latest masterpiece will be in the collective consciousness for a long time to come.
