Pwnery's "This Old Gat" - Revisting the 91/24 Carcano
After doing a light preservation on this old Itali-gat, I never really felt the finish on the stock was good enough for my liking. Restoring the Swiss 1889 Rifle pretty much cemented my resolve to restore the stock on this old Carcano to something a little nicer - so I did what any other amateur gonsmiff would do - my research. Looking into various ways to go about this, I fell back on the people who essentially showed me how to do this in the first place, and decided to take down the rifle back to parts, and focus on cleaning up the wood with a little more steel wool, a little more denatured alcohol, and even a little sandpaper - but only in the places where it seemed absolutely necessary.
The entire process took about 3 and a half hours from start to finish, and in all honestly, I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I'll let you all decide on your own if this was decent or not.
Well, it wasn't a chilly winter's day in the New England area, and Norm and Steve weren't around to guide me through it, but I'll try my best to guide you through this process and encourage you all to get out there and save these pieces of history before they're all lost to time, corrosion, and the destructive powers of anti's. So kick back, relax, and enjoy the show - it's why I do these videos - to help answer the questions before you even have to ask. Thank you all for liking, sharing, and subscribing to my channel and maintaining your interest in firearms in a safe, and practical way.
