Quake III: Arena - Team DeathMatch [4v4 Skirmish]
I haven't played this game in years, and it really does show.
Today's DM theme - it's the UAC vs That Other Lot!
All sorts of idiotic comedy errors here; I blow myself up, fall into holes, frag my own team, miss vital shots completely, and top the killboard with a sound victory.
Wait, what?
Turns out that I'm not complete shit at this after all then.
I'll be honest here though, I never really found Quake III to be as enjoyable as either Quake game before it. The Single Player 'campaign' was hugely disappointing to someone who likes gunning down hundreds of demented alien/demon abominations while heading for a designated exit, and the few extra gamemodes within were largely the same old dross; kill the other player/s until you reach a magic number of winning. This sort of thing becomes very tedious when your only objective throughout is mowing down a few pre-set AI characters in the same old fashion time and time again on an often tiny map.
Multiplayer? Largely the same. Obviously when you're playing against living, breathing opponents it's more fun, but then with Quake III came the SRS BSNS attitude and all that tiresome nothing-except-CTF shit that sapped all the enjoyment from many servers.
Still, in short bursts it was enough fun to mess with... and if you were a LAN player then (as I was), at least you had something to shoot that would possibly start raging there and then when you killed it.
