This video was originally supposed to be uploaded on March 17th for St. Pat's or March 20th for Ostara, as well as the first of two special videos for this year's Irish March, but there's been quite a lot going on in my personal life, so this got delayed big-time and the second video has been cancelled entirely. That's why some of the narration in the beginning of the video might sound off.
...At least it was still March at the time I uploaded this?

Last March, I talked about the Fate franchise's portrayal of Scáthach, the mysterious spearfighting master of Dún Scáith, and while I'm still somewhat content with how that turned out, I didn't think I did my reading of the Ulster Cycle justice, since I was relying mainly on one translation and made a few instances of vague wording (like Cú Chulainn *just* defeating Aífe in a duel, when it was important to mention that he had to cheat in order to win), so consider this an attempt at redemption.

As long as I've known about the Ulster Cycle, the character of Queen Medb has interested me more than any other character in the epic. For a tale whose oldest origins point toward the Medieval period of Irish history, a strong matriarchal leader like Medb is quite a surprise to see as is, but Fate taking a crack at depicting the Queen of Connacht makes this even better.
(Question is, can I use this video as a catalyst to summon Medb while her pickup banner is still going?)

So while most folks joke about Medb's lustful personality and demise by cheese, I decided to see how similar Fate's version of Medb is to the original myth, this time, consulting three translations of the Ulster Cycle: Lady Gregory's 1902 translation, Thomas Kinsella's 1969 translation, and Philip Freeman's 2017 abridged translation.
