Bubsy Bobcat in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind is a 2D platfomer developed and published by Accolade for the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Microsoft Windows in 1993 (1995 for the Windows edition). In the game the player controls Bubsy, a spunky Bobcat that can run as fast as Sonic, jump like Mario, and glide like, uh, some other famous mascot. The goal is to collect the yarn balls that the evil alien Queens Poly and Esther have stolen, and defeat their invasion force. Players travel across various levels, with each third level containing some sort of boss fight. There really isn't too much to say about Bubsy that hasn't already been said. He's become a bit of a meme in recent years due to the hype that Accolade built up for him as a mascot character, only for that to be dashed once people realized the game was marred by Bubsy having a single hit point, meaning any hazard or enemy he touches kills him instantly. Honestly, if it weren't for that, I think Bubsy would've done much better. The actual gameplay isn't terrible, and while Bubsy is at best an above average platformer, I think the game is a little over hated. Bubsy went on to have 3 sequels, Bubsy II, also for the SNES and Genesis; Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales, an Atari Jaguar exclusive, for some reason, and Bubsy 3D, which is semi-impressive for the time from a technical standpoint but is woefully inadequate from a gameplay perspective. In recent years we've also gotten Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, which was so bad it practically hurt my feelings, and Bubsy: Paws on Fire!, which is a side-scrolling platformer made by the same people who created Bit Trip Runner.
