Super Godzilla is a fighting game developed by Advance Communication Company and published by Toho in December of 1993 (Japan) and July of 1994 (US) for the Super Nintendo. In the game players take control of Godzilla and battle monsters such as Ghidorah, Biollante, and Mechagodzilla. The plot of the game revolves around earth putting a transmitter in Godzilla's head to guide him to the different monsters plaguing Japan who have been sent to earth by alien invaders. It's a fairly typical Godzilla plot, but it flows quite well and feels like one of the movies. In the game players first guide Godzilla around the map in search of power ups, before attacking the main monster present in each level. That main monster is unique, and has a different fighting style, though all the attacks are typically of the same type between monsters (body blow, ranged attack, or special attacks such as lasers or lightening breath, etc.). Overall this game has a really high difficulty curve, and there's no save feature, which is unfortunate as the high difficulty makes the game kind of wearisome to play. That said, if you're Godzilla fan, I feel this is a solid game, and it is fun in short doses. There's no sequel as such, but this is far from the only fighting game based on Godzilla that was released during the time period, as several other similar games were released during this time for various systems.
