In DOOM: The Dark Ages, quick swaps aren't very necessary, in fact playing the arena while quick swapping made it harder than it needed to be because mixing melee and shield along with one of your weapons is stronger than quick swapping weapons.
In DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal on the other hand, quick swaps significantly increase your dps and make you all the more deadly.
