11The Zombie Apocalypse...it makes for an incredible, challenging and rewarding campaign setting for players and storytellers alike. The restless dead arising from their eternal slumber, the plague virus spreading through the masses as they flee in terror from its harbingers; all this and more is available to the Dm that wishes to bring such a story to their players.
But how to start it? Is there a method that is best? In most cases: No. But starting from the beginning, instilling a sense of normalcy that you then begin to strip away, bit by bit, crawling and advancing the charnel house tale forwards.
Or starting in with the apocalyptic hordes of the undead already present, with the characters just having met and starting out on their harrowing tale of survival amongst the rotting masses rolling through every town, city and settlement like the tides crashing against the shore.
