Radical Saved by the Bell Game Boy! (FunnyPlaying Q5 IPS OSD DMG)
I recently mentioned that I had two early IPS modded DMG's but have an extra DMG motherboard lying around that I'd like to use to do up with a more modern IPS kit. Well, here we are! I sold my clear IPS DMG to justify doing up another one and today we're using the FunnyPlaying Q5 IPS kit here. I ordered the kit, shell, buttons, membranes, glass bezels/screen covers and speaker from FunnyPlayings official website and with free shipping from China it arrived to me in Canada in only 8 days! Super impressive! But I can't say this is normal. I think it just depends when ships go out, how fast customs passes it on to Canada Post etc. I think everything just aligned here as this is the quickest shipment I've ever got from China (usually Aliexpress takes closer to 12 days or more) and I also liked that Funnyplaying has the entire eco-system of parts that you know will work together. I do wish they'd restock their DMG parts in general. I really think their color selection has been low for the past year now. Both their website and official Aliexpress store have very little colors to choose from with most being sold out. You'd think they would have manufactured new batches in a year but perhaps DMG just isn't in very high demand compared to GBC and GBA.
Anyway, this kit offers an %11 larger screen, 36 color pallets (vs only 9 on the old kit), pixel gap modes and an OSD that makes going through color pallets and changing up other options/settings easier. I originally finished the build with all baby green buttons/membranes and a grey screen bezel but ended up swapping out the grey bezel with the pink bezel after the video. I have to say I'm so glad I did the pink bezel really put this thing over the top! I think it looks amazing and the pink and baby green really compliment each other very well.
