Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic for PlayStation 3
Hello, and Welcome to another sneak peek into PlayStation 3 Exclusives. This time we take a look at a new PSN title, Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic.
This is a very unique looking game where you use plastic kung fu dolls to fight against your friends (offline), and also to do many challenge stages with. It is meant for pure fun and has no real storyline that I know of.
The graphics are pretty good overall and unique looking. Every character looks like real plastic toys. The backdrops also look detailed enough for a PSN downloadable game. Nothing fantastic, but not bad either, just pretty good.
The music is decent enough, fitting the overall mood of the game and going well with each scenario. Not the best I have heard but goes with the game quite nicely.
The sound effects are pretty good with powerful blasts coming from the energy balls and crisp clear sound effects come from smashing bottles, thrown shurikens and such. Basically what I would expect from this style of game.
The controls in Rag Doll Kung Fu are a mixed bag for me. On one hand you notice the game feels perfect for the physics of actual plastic toys. I can seriously imagine using a marionette type doll to play in this type of game and it seems to match up with the way the game feels.
Then on the other hand you will agree that even though the game feels right for plastic toys, its physics suck for actually using in a fighting game. I mean when I play a fighting game I want some controls that feel decent and comfortable. I am a Street Fighter 2/ K.O.F. generation guy and this games controls just end up pissing me off when I play a serious match against the CPU. Its a struggle of will, and I end up losing.
For some reason when I'm fighting against the CPU characters, I cant stand the controls and I want to just turn the game off, but when doing the Challenge stages (like throwing shuriken stars at objects and throwing the fish in the basket, etc..) its not so bad and is actually quite fun so like I said before, its a mixed bag.
Bottom line: For the price tag of $9.99 I suppose its a decent little fighter with an interesting uniqueness about it, but I do not recommend this game to people who are looking for the next Street Fighter. Also this game has no online mode to play against others. Just a multiplayer mode for offline and it has challenge stages as seen in the video (which are quite fun). Keep that in mind when purchasing the game.
This game is in 720p native, has Dual Shock 3 Rumble support, Trophy support, and has Dolby Digital Surround Sound quality.
