Rage - first 60 minutes - gameplay - visually maxed - pt1 of 5
This video demonstrated Rage PC Game that was released in October 2011. The visual settings are maxed out for 1280x720 as you
can see. I also demostrated a bug with cache textures set to high, but a solution to set it to low. Cache textures at high
displayed squares and triangles. I used Core I7 930 2.8Ghz (brought it to stock for video capturing testing purposes), 6 Gb of
OCZ Gold DDR3 1600Mhz , Gigabyte Radeon HD 5770 Super overclocked 1Gb GDDR5, Windows XP SP3, Rage Retail with update1 and AMD
Catalyst 11.10. Game was in Window Mode and I recorded my gameplay with Moroz Video Capture software that was developed by me.
Moroz Video Capture did a nice job to capture 1 hour gameplay of Rage. It also converted it in xvid at the same time with great
performance. Nice software!
Well this video for folks who would like to see if this game worth or not. In my case I underlined all the coins, so watch
closely. However for some people it might not be a huge coins.
My opinion: John Carmack failed big time. If ID Tech 5 is based on mega texture technology and it is same as we saw in Rage than
I believe that ID Software is failed.
First of all, mega texture level design is failed because textures are very blury when you get close to them. It is even worst
than Doom 3 in my opinion.
Second, particularly redraw issue in Rage but might be fixed later. I moved fast while demonstrated the problem.
Third: I also heard Carmack said it was painless, took a lot of time and knowledge to create mega textures - this is a huge
minus. Because Rage textures were sucks comparing to regular level textures used in current 2011 games, but takes a lot of time
and knowledge to get with this Mega Textures.
4. If ID Software couldn`t debug their own technology who will than?I heard Carmack was debugging this thing with three debuggers
and end up with this?
5. Particularly about Rage - we can see that it was not designed for PC. Game itself does not have physics. Entities or Object on
the level are static. Hold on what year is it? Yeah! Exactly 2011, but Rage has static object and no physics. Shame! Basic lamps
not breakable with bullets, you can move object, even phone in doom 3 was movable by bullets not in Rage! Glass does not have a bullet damage! I also heard that Carmack said during the Quakecon 2011 that after Rage he will buy all the toys for PC and will
play with them. With this attitude, we can say, he did not even bother to develop a good game for pc without even know today`s pc hardware.We can see it clearly.
6. Game was very buggy, it is hard to believe it came out from ID Software. Hey ID Software hire me, and I will make sure your
next one will be nice. So much crushing when between the levels loading. Going to Window mode will cover most of that crushing,
but anyways. I spend 1 day to make sure game can run, but still crushing between the scenes loading. I gotta move my mouse while
its loading to prevent it from crushing - what a joke, but at least it helps me a lot. Move your mouse between the loading slowly
clockwise - it will help.
My opinion: I could not believe that Rage took 7 years to develop. if Rage represent the 85% of ID Tech 5 engine, than this
engine is failed. I dont think it will sell like ID Tech 4 that Doom 3 based off. Competition is just to strong for it in 2011.
By the way I did not see constant 60 fps with a powerful Radeon HD 5770 at 1280x720 maxed out. Carmack was mentioning it a lot in
Quakecon 2011. I can see 60 fps with any 2011 game maxed out with 1280x720 except crysis or crysis 2.
I was waiting for game better than Doom 3 ID Tech 4 that I experienced previosly. I think if you are a gamer who hard earned
his cash and debate between this game or that, grab yourself a Battlefield 3 and enjoy! Rage is not a very good game. Rage
should be $14.99 maximum!
Let see what Doom 4 will look like. However I think it will be the same visual level and blury textures. If so than Carmack face
is dirty for years to come. He was a father of in game first physics with Doom 3 and others with FEAR in 2004. Now he decided to
take physics down? Today`s almost any game have physics, most of them even advanced. We can see level and objects on the level
designed with mega textures are horrible quality when we are getting closer to them. Skybox has noise.Why they dont get rid of
the noise with Photoshop. For example Red Faction Armageddon has a nice skybox without a noise! Or maybe it is my taste as a
photographer who is being a while. Everything else like characters, weapons and vehicles did not used Mega Texture and much
sharper, better details and you can see the difference like day and night. MegaTextures are loosing visuals to simple texture maps of models and level design.
I like metal shaders and particles such as wind&sand particles.
