Playthrough with Mary. This game was released in 1997. Despite the title, it isn't an update of the previous game, but is a new installment in the series. All of the backgrounds are new and the majority of returning characters have new sprites. Certain other characters, like Kim and Bob, are using their sprites from the previous game, but they have some new animations. Every character from the previous game is back, along with some characters who were last playable in Fatal Fury Special: Tung, Cheng, Laurence and Krauser.

The rings outs featured in the previous game are gone, and there are now hazards at either side of almost every stage. If you repeatedly knock your opponent into these, they'll eventually break, which will dizzy the opponent. The plane switching has also been reworked. In the previous two games there were three planes you could switch between during a fight, in this game there's only two.

Geese Howard, who (maybe) died in the previous game, is a hidden character in this one, who you can face in a "Nightmare" match. To get Geese to appear you need to play through the game without losing any rounds, getting high grades after each round, and have a score of at least 750,000 points or more after you've beaten Krauser. If you manage to do this, you'll get to fight Geese. Whilst he can move quickly and do a lot of damage, he tends to fall for the same trick as in the previous game: jump towards him and do a punch, he'll often try to do his high counter in response, but it'll fail and leave him open to attack.
