Playthrough with Geese Howard. Fatal Fury Special was released in 1993. It's an update of the previous game that makes all the bosses playable, and also adds three characters from the first game: Duck, Geese and Tung. There are plenty of gameplay differences too, one of the biggest being that you can now actually do combos.

This game marks the start of what I think is SNK's period of horrendous CPU difficulty. This game is very, VERY difficult, even on normal. Out of all the Neo Geo fighters I've played, I can't decide if it's this or Samurai Shodown II which is the hardest. The CPU will go out of its way to kill you from the first opponent, and it only gets worse from there. It doesn't help that the controls are a bit stiff too, and some of the inputs for the desperation moves are really dumb -I could never pull off Geese's raging storm consistently, so I never use it. But if you want the best laugh, just look up the input for Duck King's desperation move.

I have managed to beat this game before with Mai and Laurence (and Ryo, but that doesn't count) but I wanted to try somebody new. Geese was the only viable character I could find, and even then, it seemed like a long shot to do a one credit clear of this. You basically need special weapons and tactics for every opponent you face in this game. It's totally worth it purely for Geese's ending, which is one of the best things I've ever seen, apart from Krauser's being ever better.

As with the previous two games, the cable I used to record this with has a sound issue: it won't play certain sounds effects, most notably the block attack sound... but only when the opponent is on the right side of the screen. And when they get knocked out, the sound does play. I don't get it.
