Today we're hopping back in time to relive a classic from the golden age of CD-ROMs: Star Wars: Rebel Assault, LucasArts' first big interactive blockbuster that made us dream in 1993... and made me suffer in 2025.
A game that once seemed like interactive cinema, but upon replaying it, it's become a frustrating, clumsy, and completely outdated experience. Was it really a gem... or did nostalgia fool us?
In this video, I review the game's story, share some juicy trivia, and then dive into some real-life gameplay where I try to overcome the first stages... with more rage than glory.
🧠 WHAT IS REBEL ASSAULT?
Rebel Assault was the first major Star Wars title developed by LucasArts, which opted for the CD-ROM format to offer pre-rendered graphics, original music by John Williams, and an alternate story starring Rookie One, a young rebel pilot.
It was an interactive cinema in 1993... but in 2025, it's hard to even call it a video game.
It includes rail sequences, third-person and cockpit stages, and gameplay that has aged very unevenly.
