DM Notes: I didn't deprive Lake of their warlock abilities without a plan for how to get them back. That being said, I hadn't really finalized the reason for the event until after it happened. My out-of-game motivation for putting Lake through all this was to punish the player a bit for choosing a race/class combo for purely powergame reasons. As for having the vampire kill the town and turn them into vampire spawn, that was him provoking the PCs. Also note that one of the spawn runs for it before the end: because the spawn gets away, the vampire will know about the shield guardian later.
