0Arthur recieves another letter from Mary. In it, she asks to meet him again, telling him that she is staying at the hotel in Saint Denis. Arthur gets there and quickly learns that Mary has more problems with her family, namely, her father, who has a long-standing drinking and gambling problems, has sunk even deeper into his vices, worrying Mary who is being shut out by him despite her attempts to help him. After finding him at the city's stables where attempt at conversation with him ends in failure, Arthur and Mary proceed to covertly follow the man on foot, tracking him down to an alleyway where they discover that he is planning to sell the brooch that belonged to Mary's late mother to the loanshark named Ashton, causing enraged woman to confront her father while Arthur heads off to catch up to Ashton and get the brooch back, eventually catching him in the swamps on the city's outskirts where he confronts him before ultimately buying the brooch back. Upon getting the brooch back to Mary, Arthur also accepts her offer for them to go and catch a show in the city's vaudeville theater...
